France Lowers Limit for Toxin in Baby Formula, May Spark Recalls

France lowered the permissible threshold for cereulide in infant formula, a move it said may result in further recalls in coming days.

The new limit applies to producers in France and comes ahead of formal advice from the European Food Safety Authority, expected on Feb. 2. The agency has already signaled its support for a stricter limit, France’s Agriculture Ministry said in a statement late Friday.
