Bulgaria’s popular former president, Rumen Radev, announced he’ll run in the eighth election in five years in a bid to shake up the Balkan nation’s political landscape and end an extended period of turmoil.

Radev, who resigned his post this month after nine years as Bulgaria’s head of state, reinforced his position that the country’s political class had betrayed its people, saying he’ll seek to meet public expectations to enter party politics after anti-graft protests last month.
