Top South African Police Officers Face Criminal Investigation
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered law-enforcement agencies to investigate several senior police officers with a view to potentially prosecuting them on criminal charges or subjecting them to disciplinary action.
The instruction is in line with interim recommendations made by a judicial commission established in July last year, following allegations by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi — the head of police in the KwaZulu-Natal province — that a criminal syndicate infiltrated South Africa’s justice system.
