Nigeria Coup Bid Involved Officers Denied Promotion, Probe Finds

High-ranking officials disgruntled over stalled promotions led an alleged conspiracy to overthrow Nigeria’s president late last year, according to an investigation into a plot previously denied by the authorities.

At least 16 officers including a brigadier-general, a colonel and others were arrested in October and will appear before a military tribunal to face charges of planning to oust President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters said on Monday. Two other officers are wanted by the authorities.
