Keir Starmer is coming under growing pressure from senior members of his own Labour Party to allow Andy Burnham to seek a seat in Parliament, potentially opening the UK prime minister up to a leadership challenge.

Labour deputy leader Lucy Powell told the Fabian Society conference Saturday that it should be up to Burnham and local members of the party to decide whether he should stand for the seat, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the Greater Manchester Mayor should be allowed to stand and that he would campaign on his behalf.
