The UK government expects Andrew Gwynne, the MP who represents the Greater Manchester constituency of Gorton and Denton, to retire in the coming months, according to an official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter isn’t yet public. That may allow Burnham, widely touted as a possible challenger to Starmer, to enter parliament if he wins a by-election.
