ECB’s No. 2 Job Attracts Bids From Six Euro-Area Countries

Six countries have placed bids for the vice presidency of the European Central Bank, putting nations from the euro area’s periphery in competition for one of the region’s key economic posts.

Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Portugal nominated candidates to succeed Luis de Guindos, whose terms runs out in May, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the head of the group of euro-area finance ministers, said in a statement on Friday.
