TDK Plans Silicon Battery Update for Holiday Season’s AI Gadgets

TDK Corp. said it’s on track to update its industry-leading silicon anode battery technology later this year, around the time Apple Inc. and other electronics makers introduce new devices for the holidays.

The Tokyo-based company has made significant strides with increasing charge capacity while keeping device profiles thin, and its silicon batteries have so far been deployed primarily by Chinese smartphone makers, Chief Executive Officer Noboru Saito said. The company is now looking to expand its customer base and carve out a share of the developing market for artificial intelligence devices, with its fourth-generation technology set to launch around September, he added.
