Lithuania is joining the race to succeed European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos, with former finance chief Rimantas Sadzius now among a growing group of contenders for the No. 2 job.

His “long-term experience as minister of finance, especially during Lithuania’s accession to the euro area in 2015, is invaluable and deserves to be used on a European scale,” according to a statement from the finance ministry on Tuesday, ahead of the Jan. 9 deadline for nominations.
