Starmer Warns Rejoining EU Customs Union Would Unravel US Deal

Keir Starmer said pursuing a customs union with the European Union isn’t a “sensible” way forward for Britain because it would jeopardize deals struck with the US and India.

The UK prime minister told the House of Commons on Wednesday that while Britain does need to strengthen ties with the bloc it left almost six years ago, trying to broker a fresh customs union with the EU would pose a risk to the pharmaceuticals industry and to carmakers like Jaguar Land Rover that benefited from separate deals with the US and India.
