Germany to Procure Wheeled Howitzers Worth €3.4 Billion

Germany will buy up to 500 RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers as part of a historic effort to push through €52 billion ($60.5 billion) in defense orders before Christmas.

Delivery of the wheeled 155mm gun platforms from the framework contract is expected from 2028 to 2034, according to people familiar with the planning. They are meant to compliment the PzH2000, another self-propelled howitzer in Germany’s arsenal. The initial deliveries of 80 and 149 RCH 155s are worth €3.4 billion, according to the people, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter. The government has the option to buy as many as 500.
