Greek Farmers Continue Nationwide Blockades on Payment Delays

Greek farmers continued nationwide protests Tuesday blocking key roads and causing some flight disruptions on the largest island of Crete after temporarily blocking the runway at Heraklion Airport.

Greece’s farmers have been protesting delays to payments of European Union agricultural subsidies by Opekepe, the country’s payment authority for farmers, at a time when production costs are rising. The delays come amid revelations of fraudulent claims of EU farming subsidies.
