Taiwan Bans China’s RedNote App for a Year, Citing Fraud

Taiwan said it was banning the Chinese app Xiaohongshu for a year due to fraud concerns — highlighting the democracy’s worries about social media apps from across the strait.

The app also known as RedNote was linked to 1,706 fraud cases involving some NT$248 million ($7.9 million) since last year, the Interior Ministry in Taipei said in a statement Thursday. It said that victims had no recourse to compensation because the app was based outside Taiwan.
