Trump Nominates a New CFPB Head, But Vought Isn’t Going Anywhere

President Donald Trump nominated Stuart Levenbach to be director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to a Congressional website, but the agency expects Russell Vought to continue serving as interim head.

Vought has worked to strip the CFPB of staff and funding since his appointment as acting director. Some consumer advocates said Wednesday that Levenbach’s nomination was likely a maneuver to allow Vought to continue delivering on the long-held goal of many conservatives to eradicate the agency.
