Katie Wilson, a community organizer who campaigned on raising taxes on the wealthy to expand social services, is poised to become Seattle’s next mayor as the latest returns expanded her lead over incumbent Bruce Harrell.

Wilson, a 43-year-old newcomer to electoral politics, was ahead by 1,976 votes, with only a limited number of ballots left to resolve. The Seattle Times projected her as the winner shortly after the latest batch of results were released on Wednesday afternoon.
