Algeria to Free Author Whose Jailing Deepened France Feud

Algeria will release a French-Algerian novelist who had been sentenced to five years in jail, in a case that worsened the North African nation’s long-running feud with Paris.

Boualem Sansal, who is in his 70s, was pardoned in a response to an appeal from Germany’s head of state, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Algerian presidency said in a statement.
