Latvia Bidding to Get Eastern Europe’s First Ever ECB Board Seat

Latvia will fight for a seat on the European Central Bank’s Executive Board, bidding to become the first eastern European country to join the institution’s top leadership.

“I can confirm that Latvia intends to actively pursue a seat,” Finance Ministry communications chief Aleksis Jarockis told Bloomberg, while declining to elaborate on whose name the government intends to put forward and for which precise role.
