Guinea Junta Leader to Run for President in December Elections
Guinea’s military leader Mamadi Doumbouya will stand as a candidate in the country’s first presidential elections since he seized power in a coup four years ago.
“It is official, the president went to the Supreme Court to file his candidacy,” government spokesman Ousmane Gaoual Diallo said by phone Monday. “He is running to tell the people of Guinea he wants their trust to lead the country for the next seven years.”
