Latvia’s parliament voted to exit an international convention that combats violence against women, in a push by right-wing parties which claim the treaty promotes LGBTQ rights in the Baltic nation.

The 100-seat legislature voted 56-32 to exit the Istanbul Convention following a marathon 13-hour debate, sending the decision to the president for approval. The Union of Greens and Farmers, a member of the ruling alliance, reversed its earlier support for the treaty and voted with opposition parties to repel it.
