Boeing Co. has secured the backing of US aviation regulators to raise production of its 737 jetliner to 42 jets a month, a person familiar with the matter said, a crucial step in the US planemaker’s path to recovery following a series of crises.

Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Bryan Bedford told Boeing Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg in a telephone call on Friday that the agency was aligned with the company’s production plans following a close review of its factory performance, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing private conversations.
