South African Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago said the threat of a crypto-currency bubble and high debt levels in many nations were among reasons to resist pressure for financial deregulation.

“If we desire lighter-touch regulation, we must first reverse the current macroeconomic and geopolitical trends,” he told an audience at Stellenbosch University on Thursday, according to his prepared remarks. “The world is living too dangerously for us to be dismantling defenses now.”
