Guinean voters overwhelming backed a new constitution that extends presidential terms by one year to seven and allows military leader General Mamadi Doumbouya to stand for election in the future.

More than 89% of the 5.7 million total valid votes cast in the Sept. 21 referendum favored the new law, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization Ibrahima Kalil Conde said in the capital, Conakry late Tuesday.
