NATO Pressured to Respond to Russian Incursions of Its Airspace
Estonia is set to ask NATO allies for extra air-defense assistance over the Baltic Sea as the alliance’s eastern members try to respond to the third violation of NATO airspace this month by Russia.
The UN Security Council will gather for an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the latest breach, which the government in Tallinn described as “part of broader Russian campaign to test the resolve of Europe and NATO.” Estonia also invoked Article 4 of NATO’s treaty, which triggers consultations and can open a path to coordinated action among allies.
