Honda Debuts $18,300 Electric Kei Car in Japan to Take on Nissan

Honda Motor Co. unveiled its first lightweight electric passenger car for the Japanese market, betting the new model may help kickstart demand for greener vehicles in the country.

The so-called kei car, named N-ONE e:, will go on sale for ¥2.7 million ($18,300) from Sept. 12, the company said Thursday. The car can travel 295 kilometers (183 miles) on a single charge, besting the 180-kilometer range of Nissan Motor Co.’s Sakura, the nation’s most popular EV.
