Education Secretary Joins Early Scramble for Labour’s No. 2 Post
UK Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson is among at least six MPs seeking to become the Labour Party’s deputy leader, as a scramble for nominations begins in what is set to be a potentially destabilizing process for Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Phillipson was joined by Foreign Affairs Select Committee Chair Emily Thornberry, recently sacked cabinet minister Lucy Powell and far-left backbencher Bell Ribeiro-Addy among those confirming they will stand. Junior minister Alison McGovern and backbencher Paula Barker also threw in their hats.
