Trump’s US Fossil Fuel Revival Nudges Global Emissions Higher
A rise in greenhouse gas pollution from fossil fuels — particularly in the US — was a major factor in pushing global emissions higher in the first half, according to a report.
Emissions in the first six months of 2025 were 30.99 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, according to Climate Trace, a nonprofit supported by former US Vice President Al Gore. That total was 0.13% higher than in the same period a year earlier.
