Workers at Russia’s United Co. Rusal refinery in Guinea Monday blocked a railway to stop alumina shipments from the West African nation as they began a strike to demand better working conditions.

Workers are preventing the train from transporting alumina to the port of Conakry and ships from loading until demands are met, said Moussa Souaré, general-secretary of the labor union.
