Harvard Wins Dismissal of Claims Over Hosting Trans Swimmer
Harvard University won dismissal of claims that it discriminated against female athletes by hosting a 2022 Ivy League swimming championship that included Lia Thomas, a transgender woman who competed for the University of Pennsylvania.
A federal judge in Boston ruled Tuesday that Harvard’s role as host of the competition doesn’t subject it to liability under federal law. Former Penn swimmers Grace Estabrook, Margot Kaczorowski and Ellen Holmquist sued Harvard along with Penn, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Ivy League for allowing Thomas to compete as their teammate.
