Given that the last days of summer are always a little elegiac, it makes sense that August’s best cultural offerings lean heavily on nostalgia. With plenty of remakes, sequels and biographies on the way, recent (or distant) history seems to be on everyone’s mind.

God bless the Disney executive who continues to exhume cult favorites. First it was Hocus Pocus 2; now it’s a sequel to the 2003 slapstick body-swap comedy Freaky Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Both actresses are back, older if not wiser, joined by younger stars who, through magic circumstances, wake up to a stranger’s face in the mirror. Aug. 8
