Sri Lanka will continue talks with Washington for further reduction in tariffs, after US President Donald Trump imposed a lower-than-proposed 30% levy on the South Asian nation.

The new tariff rate is a “good start” for Sri Lanka, which had primarily negotiated to preserve the nation’s competitive advantage, Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma said on Thursday. The island nation will continue to engage for a mutually beneficial outcome, he added.
