California Sues Trump to Protect Its Transgender Athletes Policy

California sued to protect itself from the Trump administration’s threats to pull federal funding over a state law that allows transgender high school athletes to compete in female sports, the latest showdown between President Donald Trump and the most populous state.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Monday asked a San Francisco federal court to rule that it was unlawful of the US Justice Department to direct the state’s public school system last week to undo its transgender athlete policy. Bonta is also seeking an order that would block the Trump administration from suspending any federal funds to the state.
