US Aid Retreat Opens Door for Bigger Islamic Development Bank Role in Africa

The Islamic world’s premier lending institution said it’s prepared to step up support for some of its neediest members, as the US and others slash aid programs for Africa and beyond.

With some “traditional donors” scaling back foreign-aid commitments, the Islamic Development Bank recognizes the challenges, especially for regions like sub-Saharan Africa, Group Chairman Muhammad Al Jasser said.
