The Italian government could require that UniCredit SpA not sell off branches in the northern region of Lombardy as part of the lender’s proposed takeover of rival Banco BPM, Corriere della Sera reported.

Rome said Friday that it will allow the bid for Banco BPM to go forward if UniCredit fulfills a set of conditions, which have not been fully disclosed.
