Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is stable and in intensive care after undergoing a new intestinal surgery that lasted about 12 hours.

The procedure to remove bowel obstructions and rebuild the abdominal wall went ahead without complications or need for a blood transfusion, according to a statement published Sunday by the Brasilia hospital where Bolsonaro is being treated.
