Chile’s Toha Tops Presidential Poll, Vaulting Over Divided Right

Chilean center-left candidate Carolina Toha took the lead in a presidential poll for the first time, overtaking the main conservative contenders in a surprise development ahead of the November election.

Toha was backed for the nation’s top job by 22.4% of voters, up from 8% in February, according to LatAm Pulse, a survey conducted by AtlasIntel for Bloomberg News and published on April 1. Center-right candidate Evelyn Matthei got 20.5%, up from 17% previously. Far-right libertarian Johannes Kaiser garnered 17.5%, up slightly from 17%.
