We have all felt it before, in the moments leading into a difficult conversation at work, in the seconds after a friend says something you deeply disagree with, or maybe after you realize, mid conversation, that a family member has recently developed wildly different political views than you. It's an uncomfortable feeling: the acknowledgment of the beginning of a conflict.
