For Newell Brands Inc., the owner of Sharpie and Rubbermaid, pricier items are selling better than less-expensive offerings so far this holiday season.

“In many cases, it’s easier to sell a higher-priced item in our categories than it is to sell a lower-price item,” Chief Executive Officer Chris Peterson said during an interview. For example, he said the company’s Mr. Coffee Perfect Brew coffee maker, which goes for $299, is off to a strong start this season, compared with $29 drip coffee machines.
