Heavy rains inundated California, raising the risk of life-threatening floods and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power as a powerful Pacific storm batters the state.

Flash flood warnings are in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura counties until 9 a.m. local time Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which warned of an “extremely dangerous situation” in the Hollywood Hills area, including potential landslides. Flood advisories were also in place for San Diego and Orange County.
