Quality Control Is a Secondhand Fashion Startup’s Key to Growth

Insisting on large bundles of consignment items fit for sale is helping Spain’s Micolet succeed where even big brands have struggled.

A Spanish secondhand fashion startup is expanding in a market that big brands are struggling to crack by setting strict volume and quality requirements for sellers.

Micolet Web SL allows people to buy and sell used clothing in its four stores in the Basque region of northern Spain and in seven European countries through its website. The company says it’s generating the returns needed to grow, because it accepts only bundles of at least 20 items from consignment sellers and is exacting about the condition of the garments.
