A golden bull has given way to a skinny cow in front of Brazil’s stock exchange in Sao Paulo after demonstrators installed the sculpture on Thursday as a form of protest against rising poverty and hunger in Latin America’s biggest economy.

The statue, made by local artist Marcia Pinheiro, is part of a larger project started in 2011, consisting of ten sculptures of skeletal cows to draw attention to the effects of the dry weather in the Northeast region, Folha de S.Paulo reports. It was displayed by the headquarters of Brazil’s B3 S.A. - Brasil, Bolsa, Balcao for four hours before being removed at the request of the artist, according to Folha.
