Apple Inc. is pushing to accelerate development of an electric, self-driving vehicle. The head of the project is aiming for a 2025 debut. Shares rose 2.9% on Thursday after Bloomberg reported the news.

The iPhone maker’s effort, which was started around 2014, had originally explored two paths: a model still piloted by humans with limited self-driving capabilities, and another model that would operate without human intervention. This latest news indicates that the company is now concentrating on a largely autonomous vehicle.
