The June 30 expiration of federal moratoriums on evictions of renters and foreclosure of homeowners has understandably set off alarm bells. On June 16, Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies issued a report warning that “millions of households that lost income during the shutdowns are behind on their housing payments and on the brink of eviction or foreclosure.”

That’s a real concern. The good news? Many families who were in danger of being thrown out of their homes have managed to repair their finances and are no longer at immediate risk.
