Several U.K. hospices have been pushed closer to the brink of financial collapse by the coronavirus pandemic, potentially exacerbating problems in the country’s health service.

The Sue Ryder charity, which has seven hospices across the U.K., became the latest to say it may close the facilities because it lacks money after the spread of the pathogen forced it to shut shops and cancel fund-raising events. It’s asking for emergency funding to continue to treat those nearing the end of their lives.
