Poland’s largest opposition party filed for a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and her government in a bid to reassert its pro-European Union stance after its support surged in opinion polls.

The Civic Platform’s motion has practically no chance of winning because the ruling Law & Justice party controls a majority in parliament. In order to oust Szydlo in the vote, which the opposition party seeks to hold in early April, at least 231 lawmakers in the 460-seat lower house must back a candidate to replace her.
