1. The oil boom in North Dakota has given the state the country’s fastest-growing economy. That growth has depended on the state’s railways, which move more than a half-million barrels of oil per day. The petroleum industry’s need for access to track and rail cars has increased congestion and costs. Farmers are seeing delays in delivering the state’s wheat, corn, and soybean harvests to exporters and domestic food producers such as General Mills.
