Woe to the white wine spritzer. Many women are now ordering drinks such as straight whiskey or rum to impress co-workers and “signify strength, confidence, and toughness to male colleagues,” according to a study by consulting firm Red Associates. Obviously, you should drink what you want. Or nothing at all. (Life tip: Stay away from Jägermeister. Always.) But if you’re looking for a go-to that’s empowering and delicious, Kelly Ann Seemann, a bartender at Luxe Kitchen & Lounge in Cleveland, suggests a twist on the Boulevardier. Less well known than a Manhattan or Sazerac, this classic will show “you have an appreciation for the art and history of cocktails,” Seemann says. She recommends asking for rye whiskey instead of bourbon, which makes the drink too sweet. As always, imbibe in moderation.
