L.A. Mayor Wants U.S. Loans, Credits to Speed Subway

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said the city can speed up a 30-year mass-transit construction plan by 20 years with funding advances from the federal government.

Los Angeles county voters approved a 1/2-cent increase in sales taxes last year to fund transportation projects including a subway extension. A funding partnership with the federal government may let the city complete the work sooner, he said.
