Hillary Clinton took the stage Thursday to accept the Democratic nomination for president, becoming the first woman to lead a major American political party. Rather than lingering on the historic moment, she pushed voters to look toward November. “American is once again at a moment of reckoning,” Clinton told the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. “Our country’s motto is e pluribus unum, out of many, we are one. Will we stay true to that motto?”
Clinton’s speech capped a convention marked by raw and robust shows of dissent by fans of her primary opponent Bernie Sanders. Party leaders voiced confidence that Democrats left more unified than they arrived, thanks in part to their common desire to defeat Donald Trump. “He has really brought communities together to get out and vote against him and for Hillary Clinton,” California State Senate leader Kevin de León said Thursday.
Photographer Jonno Rattman spent the week in Philadelphia capturing the convention moments you don’t see on TV. Here’s some of what he saw.
